Today I am writing a very short post because I am still frantically preparing for the upcoming International Reading Association trip.
Since yesterday was Earth Day, I thought I would share three great books about the environment that have the potential to spark some really great TWRCs!
The first one is Just a Dream by Chris Van Allsburg. You can read a synopsis of the book on Chris Van Allsburg’s website. While you are there, be sure to click on the interactive tab and watch a few of his video interview clips. Synopsis of Just a Dream on Chris Van Allsburg’s website
The second one is Dear Children of the Earth by Schim Schimmel. This is written as a letter to the children of the earth and the words and pictures are simply beautiful. If you have not seen Schim Schimmel’s artwork before, take a look at his website. I almost guarantee you will not be disappointed. Schim Schimmel’s Website
The last one is The Lorax by Dr. Seuss.
Here is the video version of this book:
Have you read these books to your students? What are your favorite books to use on Earth Day? If you would like lesson plans for any of the books, you will find plenty with a simple Internet search.
